Image….It goes where you go and it talks!

Starting project.

RE.- Up and getting ready for a change.

So, here I am, talking about image, and I must mention that image has a place in everything. Everything you do has the  ability of making you form an opinion of “I like, or I don’t like”.  Example: you see a home from the outside. You form your opinion of what that home looks like on the inside or who lives there. There is an immediate feeling about that home.  Hence, your opinion is based on the silent image the house portrayed to you, the lawn, the appearance of the outside of the home, color, size, and other factors. This judgement is made in seconds, not minutes. The particular feeling about this house  will be remembered until something else replaces it.

It’s the same way when you see someone. It doesn’t have to be anyone you know. You look at a picture of someone and the opportunity arises for you to come in front of that person before any words are spoken. Based on the fact you have no knowledge of this person,  you form an opinion, perhaps based on how they dress, how they look, their home, car, way of speech and other type of preconceptions already held. This takes place in seconds!

Image is a sensory experience or a mental picture of oneself or an object. We are all in a place to make judgement calls when we read something, hear something or see something. We, often times, don’t  realize we’ve done it. How about talking to someone on the telephone that you’ve never seen, never met and know nothing about. It could be a wrong number. What does that person look like in your mind’s eye? You have an image based on the voice. Yes, it’s human nature. We react probably more than we act. I want to tell anyone who is reading this blog that image is a part of your everyday life. What we see, experience through someone else remains so unless something else comes to take its place. Image changes from one moment to the next. At times, it may give you a different opinion after the first reaction. The same applies to you, as a person. You see someone or someone sees you without any introductions; a perfect stranger. You size up this person in just a few seconds. You think you know a lot about this person, but really you know nothing more than your eyes can see. You don’t even know their voice tone, the colors they like, or wear most often, etc.

Image is fascinating. Your sensory perception begins to work hard when you are at a place where there lots going on. In a crowded place, you may see many people for the first time. You have already formed so-called opinions of each one; some more than others. You go to visit someone, but even before you reach your destination you’ve formed an opinion of  how things are going to go; who will be there and your thoughts of who they are and what they do. Then, once you’ve reached your destination, what are your thoughts? You may have forethought of what you think will happen and the people you will deal with. Therefore, based on that determination, you like  it or you don’t. Do you always have a reason why you like or don’t like someone or something? I like to write about image, and in fact, I will probably do a radio show about how important image is, and everyone has one. It is an opinion, or sometimes even a judgement,  by another person who you may not have ever met. While I speak of image, I want to be sure we all understand that it happens in silent mode at times. We do, at times, remember and still judge others based on the first image of connection.

It is almost impossible to meet someone for the first time and not form an image of that person. In fact, in my mind, it doesn’t happen. There is always an opinion formed for those we meet the first time to the 50th, 60th, 100th time. We are always making  judgement calls on one another, and none of us are perfect. Therefore, we should note we are connected to one another as humans, and it is normal and natural to prejudge or assume, although this is not a positive action. What would be nice is if we didn’t do all this pre-judging, and just let emotions and thoughts come in a quiet, good way. It is always nice to see if you can really find out the truth about what you’re thinkinghe people you hear about and haven’t met. As you can see this topic really interests me. I actually used to give talks to colleges and major companies about projecting  positive image. There is only one opportunity to make a great first (1st) impression. Why have I blended this in with my decorating? Because, it’s essential that people acknowledge themselves as a bigger part of the message the home is portraying. After all, when someone compliments you on your home or anything else, they have already formed their opinion about both, and they like you.

Accentuate Home Styling & Consulting offers online and in person consultations to assist you in building a decorating plan for your next DIY project. We look forward to hearing from you.

Are you… (ahead of)… yourself?

Two minds better then one.

Two minds better then one.

Sometimes, I can get ahead of myself. Has that happened to you? Have you been in deep thought about an idea, something you propose and not sure how it will be perceived by others? What you may not understand about Accentuate Home Styling & Consulting is that we are a different type of interior decorating company. We love to explore various levels of decorating with our clients. When they think they’ve got their idea down pat, we challenge them to try something they’ve never tried before. This is a fabulous way to keep learning about oneself. What could be better than to learn something ‘new’ about yourself?

Home decorating and design is  bringing new ideas and processes of change into a house to make it a ‘home’. Our purpose is to meet with people like yourselves (our clients or would-be clients) to determine where their thinking is regarding what they want and anticipate for any space changes in their home. It is a great time to dig deep into your thoughts, use  as many resources as you have and come up with great ideas. There are many ideas out in the marketplace, and it doesn’t mean they all fit your space as you expect.

  • Here’s where we come in. I have a couple of analogies to share with you. How many times have you decided to try something different for a meal at home? You may have even had it before, but you want a different variation. If you don’t go to a cookbook or ask someone who has cooked it before how they prepared it, you will most likely end up preparing it the same way you always have.
  • Here’s another example for you. What if you have a rash on your hand (or other parts of your body)? You may try to put some sort of salve on it, or at the very least, try to find someone else who has experienced this same malady. But instead, you decide to seek professional help from a doctor to tend to your issue. This is best, because you may spend time applying all sorts of remedies to your problem only to waste time and money in the process. This applies also to the decorating process of your space. There is so much out there in the decorating marketplace. If you’re seeking ‘different’, we may even look into wholesale to expand your variety of products for use in your home.

In addition, not only do we care about you, but about some other folks you may personally know or are acquainted with. They may be elderly and/or in poor health, having to leave their home. We need to talk immediately. Contact us today, and we’ll talk.  Also note, we are excited to work with DIY clients. We want to know what your perception is  for your space. We can add to it, and just think what will come out of this collaboration. Come on, let’s get started.

Two minds better then one.

The point I’m trying to make is defining when you are wasting time and money, rather then working with a professional decorating company such as Accentuate Home Styling & Consulting. We’ll help you step outside of your comfort zone and find other ways of styling your home.

How much did you pay for your home? I don’t really want to know. It’s just a rhetorical question. My point is don’t deny yourself from making your home what you really want it to be  by not examining the fundamentals of the reason for the changes. Searching magazines,  going to furniture stores and getting many opinions can cause confusion. Keep thinking about who lives in this space is the crux of the matter; it’s the determination of everyone having a piece of their personality included in  your plan.  When a friend, neighbor or relative has their home decorated a certain way, it only means it works for them, but not necessarily for you. Personality is a key ingredient and essential in decorating. Give your imagination a chance to be opened up to the possibilities for your space. For as many people that occupy a common space, it’s important to get input from as many occupants as possible. Let’s try it..together. Please fill in contact sheet and return to us.

WHAT’S A DAY WORTH TO YOU?

“Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end.  It’s not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; it’s when you’ve had everything to do, and you’ve done it.”  (Margaret Thatcher)

My day begins with a big thank you to my maker.  I will be the best person I can be,  to meet and greet others with a smile and offer words of encouragement. After all, it’s a great day to be alive; it’s a gift that should not be wasted, and each day presents a new challenge.

My day also involves talking and working with homeowners who wish something different. They are tired of the way the space in their home or home office  is being used or wasted. They have ideas about the use of the space, but may not get around to actually making the changes.  Where Accentuate comes in is to inspire the ideas of our clients and add to them, thereby, giving them a finished picture of what can be done. And then, there are clients who do not know what they want to do. They just want something exciting and inviting for the space. Having  us share in this experience is very rewarding. I love the chance to see the space as a clean canvas to create on.

What’s a day worth to you? Is it being able to spend more time with your family and friends, is it doing something special for yourself,  is it to begin or end a project that requires your full attention, or is it the day that you should contact us to begin your room project?

Now that we are into this beautiful time of the year…Christmas Holiday’s…, we shape up our homes to look their best when we get together with family, friends and co-workers to celebrate this awesome time of celebration.  Also at this time, you decorate and spruce up your space to be beautiful, welcoming and very holiday-ish. If you’re like me, you stand back and admire your creation with a happy smile and a pleasing heart about your design.

What’s a day worth to us? It’s to have the opportunity to write this blog and introduce you to Accentuate Home Styling & Consulting, if you do not already know us. We want to hear from you. As mentioned earlier, we work with you in consulting  and planning your project. The next big Holiday after Christmas will be New Year 2013. We wish you well in the new year, and hope you will continue to think about…. What’s A Day Worth To You?  We are happy to bring you this message and look  forward to visiting with you once the Holiday’s are over. Plan early and get a head start. Have us provide you a personalized plan from Accentuate Home Styling & Consulting to begin your project, or have us help you with it.  You may reach us at http://www.accentuatehomestyling.com .

Part of this season is the creative presentation of your decor that you decorate with. You may even be gearing up for a Holiday party, which again brings you into the decorating mode. One idea for a Christmas centerpiece is to use colorful fruit, green and red peppers along with Christmas colored candle, along with a few special ornaments in a fabulous bowl or special holder.

It strikes a great harmony within  the space,  and it certainly makes you and others  take notice of  what a special time this is.

Once the Holiday’s are over, keep color in your space and do not overcrowd your room. A day worth spending in your special designated room is worth a million dollars, and we would love to consult and help you plan out your space for comfort, enjoyment and peace. Start 2013 by booking your consultation and planning process with us and keep remembering what the day is worth to you. Make it abundantly bright.

WHAT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN?

I’m taking a big breath, because Accentuate Home Styling and Consulting is making some changes; changes that will have a positive effect on our prospective clients and current clients. Pretty intriguing, huh?

To put it plainly, we want to say a special hello to everyone who follows us and calls on us to aid them with their interior decorating projects. We want to say hello to those who are meeting us for the first time. We are making a slight change, and a greater part of our focus will be reaching out to homeowner’s and Do-It-Yourself  interior decorating buffs. Our goal is to accentuate how change of thoughts and ideas in the broad term will allow us to meet them right where they are in their decorating decisions. From that point, we come together and reach out into the interior space where our thinking, their thinking and objectives will lend itself to go outside-of-the-box a little. It will encourage something new and different. Sounds exciting? Put on your imaginary cap and picture your space being renewed as you read this blog.

What if you already have furniture and/or decor that would work in the room specified for changes? That would be great. See, you’ve already reduced your budget needs.  As I describe this journey, and you begin to picture it in your mind, I hope you see the promise of collective thinking.  If you don’t have a budget made, we’ll help you put one together for your project. This way, you stay on point and know where you are budget wise all the time.

When you are ready or thinking about it, let’s talk. Talking never hurts in this instance. We will concentrate on your home and small office space. We can speak in person, on the phone, over Skype or in email, or all the above. It’s really about what’s more comfortable for you during this phase.  This will be your personalized plan, and  we will talk about what you want to do to make the change to your home/office space. What is going to make life easier and a joy to come home to? Comfort, relaxation and a sense of peace is what you deserve in a room designed by you, with our help to bring a big smile to your face. Say “bye-bye” to some things you’ve had for quite a while. Sometimes, it nice to offer to others who haven’t had that same experience or have nothing much to fill their wall or their interior space, except a door and a window. You’ll be able to take credit for the final WOW moment as you carry out the plan. You’ll work your plan and plan your work with the help of Accentuate Home Styling & Consulting. Keep up with us, and visit us. Leave us information to contact you. We will be available to help you, if you’re not sure of something in the plan. BULLETIN: There will be something else coming soon. You stay turned to us, and we will be very excited to tell you. Then, we want you to tell everybody else.

Thank you for your time, and we hope to hear from you soon. Our Facebook address is: http://www.facebook.com/accentuate.rla . We are on Twitter, Pinterest,  Houzz and Olioboards.  Peace to you.  Rita

IS YOUR PERSONAL IMAGE A REFLECTION OF YOUR HOME?

Image

You probably answered with a resounding NO, but I would say yes. One’s image can tell a history or story without words spoken, and one’s home can do the same thing. We often say we really don’t care what people think, but deep down, we do. Someone sees you from across a room or interacting with others and decides they know you based on how you look, act or react. Someone sees your home on the outside and decides they know how it looks on the inside. It may seem like it’s something small, but image can be a big booster or a let-down for any of us.

Awhile back, I spent a good deal of time talking to businesses and schools making people aware of how important their image was to their success in life. Unfortunately, it’s true. We are not quick to judge ourselves and correct our ways for the better, and we allow others to do it for us. When we leave ourselves or our home open for someone else to judge, we are hurt and sometimes angry. This happens even when you don’t ask anyone’s opinion. Who has the right? No one has the right to ridicule, but people take it upon themselves to judge, and sometimes they are making the decisions.

Since I have been an interior decorator, I have treated my clients the same way that I did when I was teaching about positive image. I teach them and empower them to recognize that the way they feel and the choices they make for their home will have a reflection on them.  I feel the image of home is a true reflection of how I think and feel about myself (at any given time). I want things to be nice and in a place. When everything is all over, I notice I get stressed and not as productive.

  • The more I do interior decorating, the more I know that image is so important. Not for others, but for myself. For myself or anyone else, it’s a reflection of how we may think about things or it’s a point where you can see something is not right for you. You know that if you  like your home decorated and neat,  and suddenly is looks like a storm came through most of the time, there may be other things going on with you.

  • You may feel inadequate in decorating your home. Many people do. Ask for help. This is what I do, and so many others like me. We cannot know how to do all things at all times. I even ask other decorators for help when I need to. Never be too proud to ask.

Sometimes, your home reflects something that is not true about you. It has its own image, based on what you do with it and to it. It doesn’t have to be fancy, but it must bear the image you want to display for others to remember, and you must be aware of that image. Image is here, not going anywhere, and people will continue to judge. Be your own judge, and live with your decisions about who you are. Change yourself when you become aware that you are happier and more content when you take charge of the image of your home and of yourself. Don’t change because everybody else wants you to; change because it’s right for you.

You be the judge and think about your image. Does your home pick up your personal image? Yes or no?

Is Your Creative Button Turned On? Be original!

Is your creative switch turned on? You ask, where is it? It’s there and all you have to do is get acquainted with it, if you haven’t already.

Here is an idea to get you started. As I contemplated writing this blog, I thought about my clients and would-be-clients. The thrilling part of my job is to see that they use their creative button often. Let’s get personal and talk about you. You have imagination that I would like to see you put to good use. Consider using it to explore a different way to use the wall space in your home.  Even if you’ve never done a project that causes change in your home, this is one that you can do. I wouldn’t necessarily expect that you would attempt to do other decorative projects or processes, if you didn’t feel comfortable, but this I believe you can do.  I’m suggesting this, because it’s fairly easy and fun. Since I’m always thinking about change, improvement and thinking outside the box, I feel this project will not be too costly, time consuming or labor intensive.

Sometimes my mind’s eye sees something that I know would work in a particular person’s home, and it doesn’t matter if it’s a single family home or apartment dwelling. It’s ALL ABOUT HOME. This is one of those projects. We strive when decorating to pull it together for a WOW factor no matter how big or small the space.

For this blog,  I’ve decided  to pick up on an idea I wrote about a couple of years ago. The idea, itself, is the same; the difference is the finished product being used. To get to this idea, I’m going to number each item for you. You don’t have to follow the numbers exactly, just the idea to make it your own.

1. Today, I’m interested in making changes to wall space.  The walls cannot be forgotten when decorating a room. It sometimes sets the whole room off in a fabulolus direction, other times it ties in with other furnishings, etc. in the room

2. Maybe, you want to leave the furniture as is or change it around a bit. My focus today, is the wall space.

3. Think art for the wall, and what you may want to see on your wall. Is it something with lots of colors, or a particular object infused into the drawing, etc.? It could be many things. After all, art is in the eye of the beholder. It could be a photograph or……  something you hadn’t thought about hanging on your wall. This idea may be used in any room you decide on. It won’t break the bank, and is really easy, not very time consuming at all. Are you ready? Roll up your sleeves, get ready and pick a room to start with.

4. My idea to save you money is the use of fabric. Yes, fabric.  Think about all the great looking fabric you’ve seen on furniture, in bedding, etc. It could have been on a wall, and you just didn’t know it.  Find a piece of fabric that is beautiful, exhibits life with it colors, joy, happiness, shapes, designs within the fabric, and it gives you a spirit of fun.  It could be one color or an assortment of colors, or a design etched into the fabric. This artwork will be a spotlight in your room and something to talk about.  Make it eye-popping.

5. What’s your favorite color(s)? What else is in the room, and what about your furniture? Will it all work together? You have to use your imagination. Go through some of your things and see the colors that you tend to gravitate to. Check your furniture and the colors that are in it or around it (ie. rug on floor, etc.) Pick a dominate color and use that to coordinate with other colors in your room or if you already are using muted tones, then you may want to use a pattern that is bright, cheery and makes you feel good. Check out what colors you often pick for clothing, what colors is your wall painted now (if at all) and anything else that will help you make a decision about how this fabric should look.  Many people are afraid of using color for fear it will not turn out right. This is why buying a piece of fabric that has colors in it, or subtle colors, will be your personal, created piece of art. Something that you, yourself pulled together and placed on the wall.

6. Color is so complimentary. Select the colors in your room, make a statement and love your decision (and other’s will too). Before you start, pick a room and then a wall where you will place your new creation.  Once the decision is made, you will apply tape (i.e. masking tape or painters tape) that is easily removed and won’t leave a  residue of glue behind. Be sure to check with the store and read the instructions on the tape, so as not to mess up your walls.  The tape is to be used as a guideline on the wall to show how big or small you want the actual frame should be. Sizing will give you a general idea of how the frame should be for the space it will occupy.  Important: take into consideration the size of your room and furniture.  Once this step is accomplished, step back and get a good impression of whether it will work for that area where you want to place it.  No matter what… it will be original. It is your creative skills that has produced this masterpiece with your name on it.  No one will have exactly what you have (unless they just love your work and choice of colors). After all, this will be a compliment to you.

Fabric has the best patterns, colors, lines, etc. There is so much to pick from. There is something for everyone. Be creative and have fun. Do not be afraid of using colors. As you purchase your fabric, have it mounted so that it is pulled tight over the frame. You can hang it like that, although a bigger frame may go over the whole thing and provide a definitive and complete look to the project.  There, you have original art (you picked the pattern, did all the work, etc.) It’s now your focal point in the room. Enjoy!

I wish you well and would love to hear from you. If you have questions or comments, please let me hear that also. Send photos of the before and after.  I’m sure other’s may be encouraged to try their hand at being An Original Artist and turning their creative button on. Be original.

What Would Your Home Say To You……If It Could Talk?

WHAT WOULD YOUR HOME SAY TO YOU……IF IT COULD TALK?

When I thought of this question, I knew it was something to share. What would your home say to you…..if it could talk?

It’s talking to you right now, and you’re not listening. We all know houses don’t talk, but they sure give off lots of hints. Maybe, they’re hints we give ourselves.

I’m taking some liberties here and using my imagination to address this issue. I believe it’s a fun question that may involve some straight answers. What would you say if you had to answer this question aloud? Fortunately, you will not have to do that. All you’ll have to do is think about it seriously to know how to alleviate any decorating and organizing issues facing you in your home.

Here are some of the things I think anyone’s home might say to them…..if it could talk.

  • I have been feeling pretty neglected for awhile now.
  • I hear you say some not so nice things about the way I look.
  • I’ve noticed you’re gone a lot, working so hard, and what about all the extra things that must get done in one day? You’re not too happy when you come home, and you definitely do not have time for me.
  • You don’t invite friends over to enjoy me anymore. I used to get so many compliments. Now, hmmm…very little.
  • My style and décor seems outdated, plus I am a little bit frazzled due to the disorganization.
  • You have so many things tucked into my space. I recognize there’s no room for people to really walk or move around. It seems very cluttered; sometime claustrophobic.
  • What did I do to make you not like me anymore?
  • Would it be fair to tell you how much I’d appreciate looking more stylish?
  • I would love to try a new color on my exterior and/or interior walls, maybe even a better looking floor and possibly some new furniture and accessories. I heard you talking about a more modern kitchen and/or bath that would show me off. Sometimes, I get annoyed when you are in the bath with the old lighting, not so great looking shower, and by the way, please keep your clothes on. You’re not as young as you used to be, you know. I know, I know I probably will get nothing now for that remark. Anyway, I am seeking rooms that are bright, cherry and inviting.

I would really stand out and be noticed if my walls could have beautiful colors and décor on them. I can imagine people saying how beautiful I am. I would feel so good, not to mention how happy it would be to see you smile. Then, you’d pay me lots of attention.

This is just a few of my thoughts. I could go on and on. Now, I understand you are very busy. Believe me, I hear all the conversations. There are the many hours at work, running the children to their various school activities, evening meetings, weekend activities with  family/friends. There are rare moments when you have a little time to pay me some attention and then it’s pretty sad for me to hear the things you say.

I am asking you to please FIX ME. You have talked about hiring an interior decorator to spruce me up and make me feel like singing (if I could). I’ve heard talk about a company that focuses on homes like me who feel so neglected. They call themselves Accentuate Home Styling and Consulting. They can make me clean, stand out and be noticed, and yes, they will work diligently and help you set up time and a budget. You probably feel like you cannot afford them. They will help you figure all that out.

Oh, I can’t wait! I’m getting carried away just thinking how different I would look and feel. I would say words like uplifting, sophisticated, glamorous and organized. Wow, just the sound of such words would show the sun beaming in on me more brightly, the brilliance of the new paint, my new flooring and not to mention the cool look of the room with the ‘just right’ furniture and décor.  Thank you, my lady for taking the time to read what I am feeling. I know everything will be fine now, and what I have to say from that point on will be something that not just you should hear, but it shall be a look that I will display for all to see. I can expect lots of people to come and see me. It’ll be like old times. I will be so well dressed. If only I could talk, things could be different. I can only hope that once you’ve read this, you will at least ask. My Lady of the house, help me feel better, and I know you be happy for me too. Thank you. I love you My Lady of the house and look forward to seeing everyone who lives within my walls come home each night.

Now, you know what I would say to you, if I could really talk. All I can hope for is you will see how sad I am with my bland walls, stuff all over my rooms and nothing inviting for you to truly enjoy when you arrive home. Help me feel better, so you can feel better. Thank you, and I love you.

Note: This is how creative the mind is. When you think beyond just a wall, a floor, a room, there is so much more to discover. Today, your home is wishing for something new and different. It’s all about creativity. Hope to hear from you soon.  Accentuate Home Styling and Consulting – 469-261-0675. Our website is: http://www.accentuatehomestyling.com. From there you can reach us on Facebook and Twitter. Allow your imagination to open up and expand your home into a magnificent place of peace, joy and inspiration. Rita
